Word search is a puzzle which helps young students with letter recognition. As well, it can help older students with spelling memorization and phonetic pronunciation, as students quickly learn that the puzzles are most easily solved by memorizing each word one at a time-- either by spelling or by pronunciation-- to avoid having to constantly reference the word list and lose their place in the puzzle.

The word search generator is built to avoid accidentally generating foul language, as well as accidentally generating duplicate words. However, it would be well-advised to make sure you do not include either of these in your own word lists. It is easy to accidentally enter duplicate words by entering words found in other words (e.g. "SNOW" and "SNOWMAN"); students will typically take the lazy way out and circle both words in one.
